Whole house water filtration - experiences?
Q. My parents moved into a townhouse community a while ago, and when I've gone to visit, I've found they have a lot of water problems. Aside from the pressure being low, which is merely an inconvenience, the water tastes and smells dirty and very fishy. Cooking with it alters the taste of meals, and using one or two blocks of ice ruins a whole drink. Sometimes even the dishes and clothes have a slight odour after being washed. Occasionally I've turned on the tap to see the water coming out brown, enough that the sinks have to be scrubbed to remove residue. The townhouse community was only built about 5 years ago, and it all runs the local water supply. I've installed water purification on the taps, but I've recently discovered that it's… [cont.]

A. yes whole house filtration is possible a water test is recommended to find whats wrong.usually supplys that serve more then 10 people or so reequire chlorine to disenfect water but if thats not the case here you can try a few things that will improve the quality thruout the house .a large carbon tank 2 cubic feet and replace it yearly cost could be about 300-500 a year.if thats not enough then there are some systems that are fairly costly but will work like a whole house reverse osmossis with ozone being injected ,break out the check book for this one and keep a spare room for someone to maintain it lol

Choice between army metal worker, or navy seabees?
Q. My husband is trying to decide between the two. He would go in as an E4 in each one, I believe. He has vast experience in construction, maintenance, and currently is a pipefitter/welder for a barge line. What are the pros and cons of each, in your experience? Thanks!
Asked by laura d - Sun Mar 14 22:53:59 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. He would be an E-3 and he should choose the SeaBees and the pros and cons really all depends on what is gonna benefit you both or your family the most. There is a downside though, his A-School will most likely be on hold for a while which means he'll be in the military but won't start training for the job for a while anywhere from a week to a year.

How do I deal with maintenance guys in a public bathroom?

I was thinking to myself: "Oh no! Looks like rednecks I have to deal with!" So I went to the bathroom and then I had to go wash my hands so I just asked because they were standing near the sink and I wasnt sure if they were fixing it: "Excuse me? You arent fixing the sink are you? I need to use it." and he gives me a funny look and says in a very rude way: "Nooo go ahead damn!!!" A. wow. I would speak to the manager of eat n park. Let him or her know that the situation made you uncomfortable. While you are not a customer of the custruction worker, the eat n park is. Let them know that you do not feel comfortable coming back if the situation is going to stay the same. You don't have to be lazy with your sanitation because they were measuring something. They knew you were there they knew it was (im assuming) the only working sink they were just being jerks.

How long does it take a wind farm to pay back its carbon footprint?
Q. Constructing a wind farm must make a huge carbon emmissions footprint if you include every part of its Development,Manufacture,C onstruction and Maintenance. Do they have the lifespan to ever get into a positive balance? Would it be more efficient to give away low energy lightbulbs to every household and business's to reduce emmissions and consumption?
Asked by jumbo remote - Wed Dec 20 17:01:15 2006 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. There is a carbon footprint for wind farms, especially offshore which use a lot of concrete, an major source of CO2; but much less than building traditional fossil fuel and nuclear generators, eg stainless steel for turbines, pipes & lagging, containment vessels fuel transport networks etc The saving of Co2 by windfarms over conventional sources is therefore positive from the point of conception Yes it is more efficeint to get people to reduce consumption; however this is contrary to the current belief/economic model of infinite growth and cheap resources. There is also a Co2 footprint for low energy devices - glass manufacture, transportation etc. There are many schemes, usually by the energy supply companies, giving away free low… [cont.]

Asked by dpsa98 - Wed Aug 26 22:02:45 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I ve been thinking about the same thing. These are a sequence of steps that might help you. 1)Make a list of what services you want to perform and at what cost to the customer. Normally this is called a business plan. 2)Business cards. This can be done right on your computer (cheap). 3)Make a flyer that describes your services 4)Let your services be known by [networking] with family, friends, local schools, city parks and recreation, people at your church, and so on. Networking is key. An example: churches normally don t have a budget for a full time person in maintenance. More like 15 to 20 hours a week. And, think of all the people that go to church that might need 5 or 10 hours a week. And on and on and on. . . 5)Put an ad on… [cont.]

Why do people in the military hate the REMF's?
Q. Much of the public, and many Vietnam veterans as well, grossly underestimate the scope and importance of the contributions made by the so-called REMF. As they said, we were only " in the rear with the gear." But no war can ever be waged without the vast support machinery of supply, ordinance, vehicle and aircraft maintenance, construction, engineering, transportation, medical and intelligence personnel - all of the men and women who were "in the rear with the gear." And it is also a fact, many of us whom they called REMF, like so many of our brothers in the bush, made that ultimate sacrifice in service of our nation, even in those supposedly "safe" rearward positions. A. I've never in my life seen anyone hate the military so much as this clown. Claims to have served in the military but also claims to have used a hairdresser for 15 years. Makes up stories to humiliate those who serve this country. Says his father was wwii military veteran, but I doubt it. If so, he would be turning over in his grave.

Moving from Ohio to the Myrtle Beach area ~ Help!!?
Q. My husband, 12 yr. old son, and 8 yr. old daughter are planning a move to the Myrtle Beach area after school is out in June. I need any info. on jobs, housing, schools, etc. I am an LPN and my husband is a electrician/construction/ maintenance man. I hope to find someplace close enough to the beach area with good schools, safety, and family oriented. If you have any ideas - it doesn't have to be in MB - just around that vacinity. I also have 2 weiner dogs that will be moving with us. Are we insane to move to this area or not? We are tired of Ohio and love the south and beach-type area. I would appreciate any ideas, opinions, etc.

A. Right now, home prices in Myrtle Beach are fairly high, but there are still some decent prices to be had. You can't really live east of the Intracoastal Waterway in a single family home unless you're prepared to pay 300+ thousand for it. Plus, the home owners insurance rates will kill you east of the waterway, because that's where the worst of hurricane damage occurs. But relax, we've only been hit hard by hurricanes twice since the 1950's. One area that is nice, and is West of the waterway, is the Carolina Forest area. There are tons of neighborhoods in that section of the county that range in price from the low 200's up to the high 700's. All of them are pretty new. AND, the Carolina Forest schools are, hands down, the best in the… [cont.]

A. this is very good exp. but high paying no. A engineering tech is very important to a project and at the end of the day they are not full engineers. You need to go to a ABET school for engineering if you want a high job. I would do the job and then yrs down the line get my engineering degree. this might take you longer to get to the big bucks but u will get there. Or you can do it a lot sooner and spend 4yrs getting a engineering degree

A. construction cost is a one time thing during start-up, it should not be mixed with annual operation nor maintenance cost. To estimate the cost of a plant, you need to estimate the cost of each equiments by usign the grass root cost. Try to look at the book " Product & Prcoess Design principle" by Seider, Seader adnd Lewin. You can also try "Synthesis and Design of Chemical Processes" by Turton et al.

These are on average 12.5K (starting) rising to about 18K in the last year, as you become experienced. In a couple of years, depending how good youm are, it could be 35k+

When these immigrants arrive they don't just sell their labor, many start small businesses in the food, construction, maintenance and landscaping trades.
